Minutes of Meeting | On Monday 6th November the members of Rotary Club of Poona celebrated Diwali, a major Hindu festival. Our members and their spouses put up a beautiful presentation through graceful dances & a beautiful ommentary to show the importance of Diwali and the way it is celebrated in Maharashtra. In Maharashtra it is a 6 day celebration starting on day 1 with pampering of the cow and its little one. Day 2 is celebrated with appreciation & pooja of dhan (wealth) & Dhanvantari. Doctors from amongst our members were felicitated as Dhanvantaris. Day 3 is Narkachaturdashi, the importance of this day was shown through video presentation. Day 4 is the main Diwali day also known as Laxmi Poojan day. The 8 forms of goddess Laxmi was beautifully presented by our ladies through dance. Day 5 is known as Padwa, which is celebrated by married women by pampering their husbands; the husband expected to show his appreciation by giving valuable gifts to the better half. The 6th day which is known as Bhau Beej is celebrated with the brother/brothers. The sister prays for the well being of the brother and the brothers give gifts to the sisters. The demonstration of the custom was actually performed by members and spouses. The whole program was conceptualized by Rtn. Jayashree Kuber and ably assisted by Rtn. Vaijayanti, Rtn. Madhuri Rao & Spouse Archana Dalvi. So many members & spouses enthusiastically participated in decorating the hall, giving technical help and contributing the Diwali Faral of special Diwali sweets and savouries, which was relished by everyone. The program ended with dinner which was a quintessential Maharashtra fare. It was indeed a fun filled and memorable event. |
